We feel that using video during swim lessons is one of the most powerful ways to speed up skill acquisition and your learning and comprehension of what you need to do to become a better swimmer. While we will use video underwater and above water as part of our lessons at the Swim Studio, many of you will want to take the video home with you. Our Dartfish video analysis software allows us to include voice-over, annotations, drawing on the video and other such premium service. Because no everyone wants the same degree of video service, we’ve created three different levels of video service with graduated levels of pricing to meet our client’s needs.
Please Note: As you will see in the samples below, we video tape discrete swims — typically the final swim of the lesson. We will not video tape the entire lesson from beginning to end.
To find out more about our video service, refer to the following sections:
Video Analysis Levels
We offer four levels of video service: Standard, Bronze, Silver, and Gold. With each successive level, you will receive copies of the videos with more analysis and annotation. Each one will provide more information and commentary about your stroke and what you need to do to improve it.
Standard Video Service (Included in the Lesson Price)
In all of your lessons at the Swim Studio, we will use the video equipment to speed up the learning process. We will have a video camera in the pool:
- In “delayed mode” to let you see what just happened a set number of seconds ago, such as a 20 second delay. This delay will allow you to watch what you did on your last swim or drill repeat to see if you got the skill right.
- In “live mode” to allow the coach to record a particular swim and play it back in slo-mo, forward/backward, or one frame at a time.
This video is considered “working video” that helps you visually understand what you need to work on. We’ll remove this video from the hard drive at the end of the lesson.
Bronze Video Service — The Video “To Do” List
The Bronze level of service is the first option for taking home copies of your video. In the Bronze level, your coach will take the video clip(s) that were most instructive from the lesson, trim out any filler space, and then write a brief description of what you need to work on between this lesson and the next lesson. You will be able to review the video on a desktop/laptop, tablet, or phone as well as download the file for local review. This level of service is good if you just want to remember what you did and some key points from the lesson.

Silver Video Service — Your Virtual Coach
Silver level of service adds an analysis voice over and video drawing to the video clip to help you recall what the coach said in the lesson. Your coach will go through the video as if she were there with you. The recording will include all pausing, frame-by-frame advance, and annotations that the coach did during the lesson. Like the Bronze level, the coach will leave a brief textual description of what you need to work on between this lesson and the next lesson. You will be able to review the video on a desktop/laptop, tablet, or phone as well as download the file for local review. This level of service is good if you want more detail and pin-point analysis.

Gold Video Service — 360 Degree Stroke Analysis
Gold level service is a full blow stroke analysis. We will video tape your stroke from front, side, and rear views and from above and below the water to get a 360 degree view of your stroke. Your coach will go through each video clip and perform a Silver level of analysis — voice over, video annotations, and key positions. For each clip, the coach will provide a textual description of the key points to look for on the video. You will be able to review the video on a desktop/laptop, tablet, or phone as well as download the file for local review.
We will only add the Gold level of service to a 50 minute private lesson. That way, your instructor will have time after all of the video taping to work on some of the points with you.
This level of service is good for those swimmers who:
- Live far enough away from downtown Chicago that getting all of the analysis done at once is the most efficient use of time
- Have completed a set of lessons and want a detailed analysis to take with them as they move on to practice or training
To see a sample of a Gold level of service, click the image to the right. Notice that the coach kept the analysis to 3-4 key points on the stroke that will have a big impact. That way, the coach was able to work the swimmer during the lesson to understand how to fix those points.
Video Service Pricing
The table below shows the supplemental cost to the lesson to add each level of video service. Those who have purchased a 5-pack of lessons in advance will get a discounted rate to add video to services within the 5-pack. We will charge you the supplemental fee for each lesson after which video is processed.
