Using a Tempo Trainer in the Lake

There are a bunch of great things about doing lake swims: swimming outside, swimming for long distances, enjoying the cool water to beat the heat. The problem with lake swims is that we lose the walls and the pace clock that help us determine whether we are holding pace and efficiency. The Tempo Trainer can bring the feedback into your lake swims. Set the Tempo Trainer to the tempo calibrated in the Swimming Golf test set and you can mimic your pool cadence. If you want to stretch your stroke out for Ironman training, slow down the tempo; if you want to speed up the stroke for a sprint triathlon simulation, increase the tempo. The Tempo Trainer will keep you from shortening your strokes and help you control how you change speeds in open water. Bring one to the lake this summer and we’ll use it on your swims.
